Corey Furmage Shock Empire Interview
Tell us a little about yourself. Age, hometown, etc.?
My name is Corey Nathan Furmage. I am 22 years of age & I live in Apple Valley, CA. I am Filipino, Scottish & Irish. Freestyle BMX is my passion. I enjoy filming, editing, taking photos & dancing. I am Co-Founder of FURM LIFE Brand & Founder of iMIX CREW. Some of my favorite foods are pizza, cheeseburgers & fries, Filipino Food & Chinese Food. My favorite colors are blue, red, green, orange, purple & turquoise. I pretty much listen to all types of music. Rock, Pop, Indie, Metal, Hardcore, Death Metal, Hip-Hop, EDM, Electro, Dubstep, Trance, Funk, 80′s New Wave, Reggae, etc.
How did you first start riding & how long have you been riding for?
I have been riding Freestyle BMX pretty much my whole life. My Dad, William “Crazy Lacy” Furmage, was one of the first original riders to be sponsored by VANS Shoes in the early 80′s. He got my brother & I into riding at a very young age. We grew up around a BMX environment since our dad loved it. I’ve been in love with riding ever since I can remember. Huge shout out to my dad. He definitely was a huge influence on getting me into riding & still is a huge influence on why I still ride today.
What is FURM LIFE Brand & how did you start that?
My brother & I started FURM LIFE Brand around late 2008. FURM LIFE Brand is a company & lifestyle that is all about staying true to yourself, staying strong & staying positive. Not letting anyone or anything take away your joy in life. We started FURM LIFE Brand because we thought it would be awesome to start a company & to have people represent the meaning behind it. FURM LIFE Brand can be a way for people to better themselves. For example, if someone is hanging out with the wrong crowd & getting involved with drugs, FURM LIFE Brand can be that inspiration that they need to get away from that stuff & go in the right direction. Check out our FURM LIFE Brand Facebook Page @ www.facebook.com/furmlifebrand & our FURM LIFE Brand Online Shop @ www.furmlifebrand.bigcartel.com.
What is iMIX & how did you start that?
I started iMIX at the beginning of the year & it stands for ([M]otivate • [I]nspire • BM[X]). At first, it was just going to be a BMX Crew which had a good amount of my friends representing it, who all happen to be awesome riders. Our goal was to show the world what we love to do. To motivate & inspire people to find a passion in life that they love. A passion that defines who they are. But then, I got to thinking & decided that it would be better if iMIX was something that anyone & everyone can represent. So instead of just being defined as a crew, iMIX will now have a crew & family within it. Also, iMIX can be a lifestyle & way of life. As a way to better yourself & those around you through BMX, by motivating & inspiring them. So, if you ride BMX, motivate & inspire others, then you should definitely rep iMIX. Even if you don’t ride BMX but are still down with the cause, then you can definitely rep too. iMIX will still have the same goal to motivate & inspire people to find a passion in life, but now anyone & everyone can represent instead of just the original crew. Check out the iMIX Facebook Page, give it a like & get to reppin’. www.facebook.com/imixcrew
If you could shred anywhere in the world, where would it be?
I don’t have a specific answer for this one. But, definitely any country that has amazing spots & scenery.
What would you do with a million dollars?
Get a few goodies for myself & my family, put it towards something positive, invest it & possibly open up a little indoor bike park in my town. There’s just too many things that I would like to do to list them all. Haha.
What’s your favorite trick to do?
That’s a tough question because I have many. But, If I had to choose just one, I would say nosepick tailwhips.
What is one of your major influences when it comes to riding?
Anyone who is amazing & humble at what they do. Whether it be a BMX rider, dancer, dance crew, singer, rapper, band, etc.
Do you have any sponsors? If so, who?
I am currently sponsored by Vein BMX & Amber BMX. I’m really excited to be representing them. Vein BMX offers riders the highest quality products at the lowest possible price. If you’re ever in need of some awesome new parts, then you should definitely check them out.www.veinbmx.com
Any last words?
Thanks to Matt & ShockEmpire for giving me the opportunity to do this interview. Shout out to my amazing family. Shout out to Levi & Vein BMX. Shout out to all of my good friends & to everyone who I ride with. Lastly, thanks to every single person who read this interview.
GOODMORNING, GORGEOUS INTERVIEW
What’s up guys! Let’s start off by getting to know your band!
What’s your music genre, and the bands hometown?
We can say a million names for “Metal”genres but mainly were Melodic Metalcore. Right now, we all live in San Antonio… But 4 of us were born in Victoria, TX and our front man (Drew Buckner) is from Baytown,Tx
What makes your band different from any other band?
We have a unique style to the way we write music. From lyrics to instruments every song has an abundance of emotion and heart, That’s what different. Bands these days just want to make music, just say their in a band. We pride ourselves in hard work and dedication, not sticking to a trend or any fad in the “metal” scene.
I know you guys recently went on tour, how was that?
Amazing. We’ve heard from a lot of guys in the industry, that first tours are always the hardest, but in this case… it was a vacation. We had a lot of fun off stage/on stage… We definitely made the most of the whole experience. Here’s our tour video.
Any tours/shows coming up that the world should know about?
May 11th we play in Baytown,Tx which is a really important show for us. We have an 8 day Texas tour starting June 6th-13th. We also have a E.P release tour that is in the works as we speak, to California.
If you guys had to describe your band in one word, what would that word be?
Tell us about your new e.p “Capstone”.
Melodic Guitars capturing catchy riffs/solos while still having heavy breakdowns that correlate great with Drew’s great range of vocals.
Check out their music and whatever you do, don’t miss the next Goodmorning, Gorgeous show near you!
